Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is rewriting the 2026 box office chart in record time. The film crosses ₹400 Cr gross worldwide today, in just 4 days. With that, it has beaten Ram Charan’s Peddi to become the biggest South Indian grosser of the year.
Peddi’s Record Falls in One Weekend
Peddi held the top spot among South Indian films this year with ₹350 Cr gross worldwide. Jailer 2 has gone past that within its opening weekend itself.
For a record built over a full theatrical run to fall in just four days shows the scale of Jailer 2’s run.
Jana Nayagan Also Crossed
Jailer 2 has also crossed Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which was Kollywood’s biggest grosser of the year with ₹330 Cr. That makes Jailer 2 the new number one Tamil film of 2026, and by a big margin.

Jailer 2 opened with ₹130 Cr, added ₹87 Cr on Day 2 and around ₹107 Cr on Day 3. With Sunday expected to be another huge day, the film crosses ₹400 Cr worldwide today.
Next Target: Drishyam 3
Jailer 2 isn’t stopping at South India. The film is now heading towards becoming the second biggest Indian grosser of 2026 by beating Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3.
With the Dasara holidays starting right after the weekend, that target could fall sooner than expected.
Kollywood’s Industry Hit Is Next
The bigger goal is the Kollywood all-time record. Rajinikanth’s own 2.0 holds the top spot with close to ₹700 Cr worldwide. At its current pace, Jailer 2 is well on its way to beating it and becoming Tamil cinema’s new industry hit.
Rajinikanth is set to break his own record, and he’s doing it at a speed no Tamil film has managed before.
